5 Tips For Healthy Shiny HAIR The Six Week Bridal Beauty Prep

SYDNEY-liv-lundelius-hair-makeup-wedding-bridal Photo by Luisa Brimble of Liv Lundelius

Do you want shiny locks and healthy hair for your wedding day (or just in general?) ? Here are my top tips on how to keep your scalp and hair naturally beautiful, enhance hair growth and prevent damage.

1. Deep Condition Once a week apply a deep hair conditioning treatment. You can use pure Coconut Oil if you are a purist or on a budget or you can use a luxurious store bought hair treatment. Always go for a toxin free hair product range! If you use coconut oil do this on a day off and sit in the sun, which will activate and heat up the oil. Protect your gorgeous skin in the sun though (with a natural zinc sunscreen) and be careful not to get burned before your wedding day. The trick with washing out oil treatments is to apply shampoo before wetting your hair then rinsing with water and then using a 2nd shampoo. Lather and rinse well. The use your regular conditioner.

2. Nourish from the inside Hair is protein discharge, and adding good quality protein to your diet will help encourage growth. Consuming enough healthy fat can aid in improving overall shine and texture. Eating more kale (vitamin C and Silica) berries (more C), onions, leeks, garlic or scallions (sulfur), mushrooms (zinc), almonds, brown rice (vitamin E), sunflower seeds (pantothenic acid – B5), and shitake mushrooms (copper) and a wide variety of antioxidant herbs like ginger, rosemary, and turmeric root, could benefit hair growth and make hair even more gorgeous! Eat WHOLE eggs (ALWAYS ORGANIC & FREE RANGE) . They contain biotin, folate, silica, and B-5, which are all universally known for helping promote lustrous hair.

3. Keep it natural Certain products can clog the hair shaft, and that will impede new growth. Many products contain alcohol, which will strip your hair. Choose natural, green products instead. I am a big fan of the John Masters Organics line because he uses a lot of essential oils and plant-based ingredients. I also love the Yarok Styling Products. If you are after a real super luxurious treat you can't go past Rahua products.

4. Be Gentle Many people break their hair when it is wet and most delicate by brushing to hard. Buy a high-quality professional hair dryer and use it at the medium setting, or don’t blow dry your hair at all. Use a wide comb or detangling brush and slowly work your way up, start at the ends. When using heating tools like a dryer, flat iron, curling iron, or hot rollers, be sure to use natural products for heat protection. Stay away from damaging heat tools if you can.

5. Protect! Braid your hair loosely or tie with soft ties to avoid any breakage, especially if you have dry or chemically treated hair. If you color your hair it's a good idea to wear a hat in the sun. It will protect your hair colour from fading or changing colour.

in flight beauty routine liv lundelius natural beauty expert When you read this I am holidays! We are on a three week Europe trip, on the hunt for the latest in design, organic luxury makeup & skin care we are in Copenhagen & Stockholm to discover the beauty secrets of Scandinavia while enjoying plenty of fikas (the swedish culture of coffee breaks throughout the day!) And also to catch up with family and to spend precious time together.

Here are some of the items I packed in my personal beauty bag for the holidays: Intelligent Nutrients Lip Care - Lip Delivery Antioxidant Gloss in Pink Hibiscus so yummy, healthy, hydrating and just enough colour. Eco Minerals Coco Eyeshadow - the perfect brown shade to be used as eyeliner, brow powder or eyeshadow. LiliLolo Eyeshadow Palette- a beautiful palette of neutrals in a very travel friendly small compact Carol's Beauty Tanning Oil - An all organic oil for a beautiful natural tan, the sunny days in Europe are far and few between, so I can do with a little help. Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream, very hydrating but also pretty, it contains a little bit of Mica for a healthy sheen, very lovely for the legs. W3ll People Narcissist Foundation Stick concealer & foundation in one in a stick, perfect for travel! Ere Perez Almond Oil Mascara in black- My go to Mascara. Zuii Organics Eyebrow pencil - This one is new for me, it has a great shade and is precise to apply, without the need of a sharpener.

the list goes on.... I am not the best in traveling light, ooooops!

Long flights are pretty though on the skin, mine gets very dehydrated, red and dry, sometimes even flakey. It's important to drink enough water when flying, and to stay away from alcohol and caffeine if possible. In addition have established an in flight beauty routine a few years ago. While the products I use change the ritual stays the same. Look out for products designed for dry and deydrated skin, night cremes, oils and hydrating masks. Collect samples or see if your favourite brands sells travel size products. Many brands to offer little sample sizes which are perfect for your inflight beauty routine. Otherwise you can always get small plastic containers and fill up your own. I just did a MUJI run and stocked up on some more. Of course please make sure all your products are under 100ml each and will not exceed 1liter in total, so they fit into a clear plastic bag.

After Take Off 1. Tie your hair back, apply a little natural oil into the ends to lock in moisture. I use Miskin Organics Silk Oil. 2. Remove any traces of makeup with gentle cleansing water with cotton buds. 3. Spritzing with a hydrating face mist I use La Mav Rose Hydrating Mist, spray into hands and pat into the skin. 4. Applying a layer of night time moisturizer or a clear hydrating creme mask & eye cream and let it sink in. Use a second layer and let it dry. You can leave this on during the whole duration of the flight. May Lindstrom's famous The Blue Cocoon is perfect 5. Apply hand balm (the Z'kin One has saved my hands many many times!) & lip-balm and enjoy your flight!

If you are on a very long flight, feel free to repeat the procedure, when you wake up.

One hour before landing: 1.Refresh the skin with a gentle wipe of cleansing water again. You can do this in the bathroom. 2. Use hydrating face mist as above. Apply day cream of choice. 3. Use a concealer where needed. I use W3LL people concealer stick. 4. Apply a tinted lipbalm or gloss and you are ready to roll.

The Truth In Anti Aging: My Top Natural Miracle Workers

La Mav Anti Ageing Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert Green Makeup Artist Sydney Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert Intelligent Nutrients Review Changing Skin: We all want to look our best at any age and are dreaming of healthy happy skin, it's all about ageing gracefully and feeling comfortable in your skin. Our skin changes with age in many ways, it becomes thinner, we loose voloume and and lines&wrinkles will start to show up. It's important to support and love your skin, so it can look it's best and stay young. Our body is quite a miracle worker. Every organ has multiple functions and if you are in good health they will all work together. It's a perfect yet delicate system. I think it's most important to love the skin you are in. It sounds like a cliche that confident happy women are always the most beautiful, I however believe this. There is nothing more stunning and captivating as someone living their purpose, laughing from the heart and radiating that glow from within. Don't we all know someone like that?

Detox To Retox: It's easy to get carried away with anti-aging treatments and procedures as well as cosmetics. The myth is that all this will make your skin look young forever while natural products don't work. The truth is quite the opposite. This can easily backfire. Regular chemical peels or invasive aggressive procedure will actually cause to age the skin pre-maturely. Just as too much sun does. No one really knows the long term effects of injectible cosmetics yet, so proceed with caution. Take it this way: If you stress your skin out and are constantly attacking it with harsh products, it will actually get upset with you. Not the right way to get that youthful glow you were after in the first place! It's time to detox your beauty bag and retox it with truly valuable powerful and healthy that beauty products.

Tata Harper Eye Cream Review Liv Lundelius

Skin Support: So how do you support your 30+ skin to keep it youthful? The answer is to work with your body and not against it. One key ingredient are anti oxidants, they protect your skin from all sorts of stress so that it can function properly and won't age prematurely. It's important to include super-foods which are high in antioxidants in your diet, but they are also a very powerful and natural anti-aging skin care ingredient.

And stay clear of refined sugar! Consuming sugary foods will damage the collagen in your skin, causing it to age prematurely. Your skin will look it's best when your body is healthy, that is a fact. Yet we always try and cheat our way around it with new technologies and synthetics. The other important idea to keep in mind is to stay clear of ingredients that are harmful or potentially harmful to your body. Quick fixes won't cut it for your skin long term. Start with makeing better choices and establish a simple routine to get that youthful glow. I could write a book about this (note to self: maybe I should?) but won't bore you with more facts for now. Instead I picked some favourite non toxic anti ageing products for you:

The Foundation Hunt: A dewy finish with Inika Liquid Foundation

liv lundelius sydney makeup artist natural beauty expert inika foundation review liv lundelius green makeup artist sydney inika liquid foundation review When I received my Inika products I was beyond impressed with how beautiful and luxurious they looked. The Truly Organic Liquid Foundation impressed me that much, I have used it straight away on a beauty editorial for White Magazine here. Amazing finish right? This foundation has been winning beauty awards for years so I was excited to finally give it a go. It is very lightweight and sheer and feels softening to the skin. It is not oily at all, nor does it sit on the skin. It feels more as if it becomes one with the skin and is undetectable. It's truly an HD finish in my opinion. The most impressive fact for me was that it achieves all these results without the use of silicone.

The coverage is light to medium when built up, so it won't cover blemishes etc. but that's what a concealer is for anyways! It can be mixed with the liquid highlighter Light Reflect for a super dewy finish, but I used it on it's own and the highlighter only on cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid's bow. It works well with fingers or any foundation brush. The smell is beautiful, sublte maybe a little floral, but there is no synthetic fragrance in this, the scent simply stems from all the high quality natural ingredients. If you are hypersensitve to essential oils I suggest trying out a sample first, just in case. The super chic bottle comes with a hygienic pump. The colour range is unfortunately limited to only 4 colours at the moment, I can only cross all my fingers they will expand the range, as I would happily include this into my pro kit. The existing colours do seem to adjust very well to a variety of skin tones, due to the sheer finish.

This is a great foundation for all skin types, (maybe not for very oily due to the radiant finish) And as I mentioned before: It is sheer, so if you are after a full coverage product this is not for you. I have been wearing this a lot lately and really enjoy it! My skin felt calm and clear after removing it at night, as it is packed with skin care benefits. Inika says on their website this product blurs the lines between moisturiser and foundation- well put! I couldn't agree more.

This foundation is certified Organic, not tested on animals and vegan.

Expert Advice: Best Beauty Foods For Healthy Skin

Pear Avo Smoothie BowlI am very excited to have health food expert, nutritionist and food blogger Monique Cormack, sharing er expertise. I met Monique a little over a year ago when she booked me as makeup artist for her wedding. Her knowledge blew my mind, so I feel grateful that she took my invitation to write a guest post for my blog.

Having radiant, clear skin makes you feel great and is really a beauty feature in itself.  While I take care of my skin externally by using simple, natural skin care products, I also make sure to nourish my skin from within by eating an abundance of foods that support skin health and regeneration.

So, what foods are good for healthy skin? A fun and helpful way to look at this answer is to think of the qualities we would like in our skin, and see them reflected in what we choose to consume.

Clear. This one is a bit of a no-brainer; I am talking about water! It is so important to stay hydrated, this will keep your skin looking brighter and fuller. Dehydration will be reflected in sallow, dry skin and tired-looking eyes. You can help to hydrate with liquids such as water, coconut water, herbal tea and vegetable juices. Also try to consume water-rich, hydrating whole fruits and vegetables e.g. watermelon, grapefruit, oranges, berries, cucumber, tomatoes, celery and lettuce varieties.

Clean.  It’s a bit of an overused term at the moment, but by eating “clean” I simply mean to cut back on processed foods and focus on eating as many foods as close to nature as possible. Fresh produce, lean meat, fish, eggs, raw nuts and seeds, smart carbs like sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa and buckwheat can be flavoured with herbs, spices, homemade sauces and dips without any chemical additives.  By removing processed foods you will also eliminate a lot of excess sugar from your diet, which can be a key trigger for bad skin.

Fresh. Making sure that the majority of the food you eat is actually fresh food, as opposed to pre-packaged convenience food, will help you on your way to having great skin.  Add a handful of fresh spinach to your scrambled eggs or breakfast smoothie.  Enjoy an orange or an apple together with a handful of raw nuts for afternoon tea.  Make sure that your lunch and dinner includes your favourite veggies, trying to include 2-3 different varieties (aim for 2 cups of veg) for a colourful plate; by eating the rainbow, you canvass a larger number of nutrients.

Vibrant.  Brightly coloured fruits and vegetables contain various micro nutrients which help to support healthy skin. Citrus, kiwi and berries are rich in Vitamin C, essential for collagen production (collagen is a major structural protein of the skin). Dark leafy greens are packed with fibre, minerals and antioxidant compounds which will improve digestion and help eliminate toxins from the body. Orange foods like carrots are rich in beta-carotene, a precursor to Vitamin A, an antioxidant which is also essential for skin health.

Glowing.  What helps you glisten and glow? Healthy, shiny FATS. I cannot stress enough the importance of including good quality fats if you want great skin. A number of nutrients needed for skin health, including Vitamins A, E and K, are all “fat-soluble”. This means that our digestive system absorbs them via a molecule of fat.  Include quality fats such as a few tablespoons of cold-pressed coconut oil, extra-virgin olive oil and/or organic butter. Chia seeds, raw nuts and seeds, oily fish, whole eggs, avocado and tahini are also excellent healthy-fat items to regularly include in your meals.

Toned. Protein! This is used in the construction of every tissue in your body. Skin cells are constantly regenerating, so we need to make sure we regularly consume adequate protein. This might be 2 whole eggs or approximately a 150 gram serve of meat or fish; plant-based sources include nuts and seeds, legumes and protein-rich “grains” such as quinoa, buckwheat and amaranth.  If you wish to use a protein powder, choose an additive-free one (I like Sunwarrior for a vegan protein, and the Bare Blends range is also very good).

Pear Avo Smoothie Bowl 2 Nourish Everyday Recipe: Skin Food Smoothie Bowl

This meal is so easy to throw together very quickly and makes a great breakfast, lunch or even a light dinner if you get home late and want to eat something that’s not too heavy before you go to sleep. I have chosen to blend together a selection of ingredients that are especially great for skin health. Avocado and chia seeds for essential healthy fats and a little protein boost.  Hydrating cucumber.  Cleansing, antioxidant-rich spinach for some essential leafy greens.  Pear for sweetness and an excellent fibre hit.  Top it with berries for your Vitamin C and also a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds, which are rich in zinc (great for skin and nails) and also magnesium (great for stress management - brides-to-be this is an important mineral for you!)

You need: 1 small pear (ripe or even overripe will work best) ¾ cup cucumber chunks 1 big handful baby spinach ½ avocado 2 tsp chia seeds 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 scoop vanilla protein (I use Sunwarrior Vanilla in this) ½ cup almond/rice/coconut/oat milk ½ cup coconut water or water ½ cup berries (fresh or frozen) 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds

What to do: Core and chop the pear up into chunks. Place the pear chunks and all the other ingredients, except the berries and pumpkin seeds, into your blender and process until nice and smooth. You can thin it out with a little more liquid if you prefer. Top with berries and pumpkin seeds.  (For a more indulgent smoothie you can also add some coconut flakes and cacao nibs as shown in the picture!)
